During the recent South Carolina Association of Hostage Negotiator Conference, the National Council of Negotiator Associations conducted their annual meeting. NCNA represents 18 State Associations throughout the United States and includes representatives from the FBI. NYAHN President Farina was at the annual meeting and provided an overview of the state of the NYAHN Association. In addition, NCNA voted and accepted the incorporation of training guidelines for Basic Hostage Negotiations Instruction. This will be posted soon on the NCNA website (www.ncna.us) and will act as a guide for those interested in providing training for Basic Negotiations in the US. For New York, NYAHN in conjunction with NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services has established a formal 40 hour training program that was approved by the Municipal Police Training Council (MPTC) in 2012. Preliminarily, we are looking at conducting the next basic negotiations training in the Albany Region in early 2014. More informaiton to follow.
