On September 27, 2013, NYAHN President Sam Farina and Former Hostage Negotiator Glenn Grana (retired from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office) presented a case study before 600 attendees at the Annual Training Conference for California Association of Hostage Negotiators. A Hamilton man ended up in a hostage negotiation Tuesday — but the hostage was his cell phone.
Around 12:50 p.m., a man was walking and talking on his cell phone on Dunsmure Avenue in the east end when a man came up from behind him and grabbed his phone. The suspect then ran off, police say.

NYC Celebrates 40 Year Milestone of Hostage Negotiations

On April 8, 2013, the NYPD held their 40th Anniversary ceremony in Brooklyn, NY to honor the Hostage Negotiation Team. In attendance was Dr. Harvey Schlossberg and Captain Frank Bolz as well as the past commanders from the NYPD HNT. About 300 former and current neogitations from all over the country attended to hear the NYPD Police Commission praise the history of the HNT and their daily accomplishments.
